FAQ

What Is Sugaring?

Sugaring is an Ancient Egyptian and Indian method of hair removal. Sometimes called sugar waxing, sugaring is a gentle, effective and all-natural solution to unwanted hair. Sugar paste is made from just 3 ingredients (sugar, lemon juice and water) and contains no additives or resins.

Am I a Candidate For Sugaring?

Sugaring is effective on all skin and hair types. However,  sugaring has very few contraindications. Besides being on retinoids, acne medication (proactive), having had a recent peeling or any open wound or skin condition, you are good to go for sugaring.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

You need one treatment to remove all of your hair, however, hair will continue to regrow and you will need to continue to sugar every 4-8 weeks dependent upon how quickly your hair grows.

What Will I Notice After And Over The Course Of My Treatments?

You will see the results immediately post-treatment. Your hair will be removed from the root of the follicle.

Most clients experience a slight stinging sensation or a little warmth in the area for a few minutes after the service is completed. You can also expect to see a few very tiny red dots (those are the pores the hair was removed from). They will fade within a couple of hours.

Overtime, the density of the hair will get thinner and thinner.

What Does The Treatment Feel Like? Does It Hurt?

The sugaring treatment process is not pain-free, but it also depends on the individuals level of pain tolerance. Our Sugarista’s are specifically trained to minimize as much pain by applying our technique: holding taut, and applying pressure.

How Long Does Each Treatment Take?

Treatment time is mostly dependent upon the body area being treated and amount of hair growth. Smaller areas such as the lip or chin take a few minutes, whereas full body may take over an hour.

How Do I Prepare For My Sugaring Treatment?

We recommend that individuals have 2–3 weeks of hair growth for the best experience.

How Should I Prepare For My Sugaring Appointment?

The day of your appointment skin should be clean and dry, no lotion or oil. You may take an anti-inflammatory/pain reliever of your choice, and caffeine should be avoided.

  • SHOWER / BATHE – Make sure the area of treatment is fresh and clean
  • LENGTH OF HAIR – Hair should be 1/8” or longer (1 week – 10 days of growth)
  • NO LOTIONS OR OILS: No skin care products in the treatment area the day of service. No deodorant for underarm hair removal.
  • SKIP THE GYM – before you get sugared! We want you to be squeaky clean.
  • NO TANNING THE DAY OF OR DAY BEFORE: Sunburned skin is too sensitive to sugar.
  • NO SELF TANNER – the sugaring process will remove your tan. Please wait until one day after your treatment.
  • DISCONTINUE – Any products or medications that dry your skin out at least 48 hour prior. This will prevent irritation and allows hairs to be removed more easily.
  • CONTRAINDICATIONS – If you are using an external medication prescribed for facial acne, discoloration or aging such as Differin, Retin-A, ProActive, Avita, Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, or Glycolic Acid it is advisable to discontinue use for 4-7 days prior to hair removal. ACCUTANE is an internal medication and dries out the entire body. You must be off Accutane for 6 months prior to hair removal on any body area.

What Areas Of The Body Can Be Treated?

All areas of the body can be treated safely and effectively with an exception of the scalp, nostrils, and inner ears.

I'm On My Period. Can I Still Come In?

Yes, you sure can! Be sure to use a tampon or diva cup. Keep in mind, that you’ll be slightly more sensitive. If you prefer to reschedule your appointment, please call us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. A cancellation fee of $50 will be applied if we’re notified less than 24 hours.

Can I Get Sugared If I Am Pregnant?

Absolutely! The sugar paste has no additives or preservatives, which means no toxins, irritants or allergens. Body sugaring is a safe, effective and gentle professional treatment.

Can I Get Sugared If I Have Body Jewelry?

Yes, we can provide the service; however, we don’t recommend wearing the jewelry doing treatment but removing the jewelry until the treatment is completed.

How Long Does My Hair Have To Be To Get Sugared?

Length of hair should be approximately 1/4″ or longer, which is about the size of a grain of rice. If you’ve been shaving, 2-3 weeks of growth is usually sufficient, but longer is fine, too. If you’ve been waxing or sugaring, you’ll want to wait 3-6 weeks in between your appointments without shaving.

What Should I Do After My Sugaring Appointment?

Exfoliate and moisturize, but do not apply deodorant, makeup, or body lotions for 12 hours following treatment. Additional suggestions are as follows:

  1. Skip the workout until tomorrow
  2. Keep your skin clean; avoid deodorant or antiperspirant until the next day
  3. Wait 2 days then start exfoliating during showers
  4. Apply a daily body lotion, especially after exfoliation
  5. Avoid any tanning for 24 hours

What If I'm Running More Than 10 Minutes Late For My Appointment?

If you’re more than 10 minutes late it’s highly unlikely we’ll be able to squeeze you in. We take pride in every detail of our work which takes the time appointed to provide you with great results. Typically our appointments are booked back to back.

However, please call us at 214-225-6846 and we will let you know if it makes sense to come in or not.

If you need to cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged a $50 fee.

Why Was My Appointment Cancelled?

Either you did not add a valid credit card upon booking or you did not confirm the appointment.

To secure your appointment a credit card is required. The card is never charged but our policy states that you have 24 hours before your appointed time to cancel. If you fail to do so or do not show up on the day of said appointment we would have to charge you a no-show/cancellation fee of $50.
