Abiding Artistry | Hair Removal Spa

electrolysis

Permanent hair removal starts with understanding your hair and your skin. Electrolysis treats individual hair follicles and works on all skin tones and hair colors. Your first visit includes a consultation and a brief trial treatment, so you can ask questions, experience the sensation, and understand what ongoing treatment could look like for you.

Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method that treats individual hair follicles to stop future hair growth. At Abiding Artistry in Dallas, TX, a fine probe is inserted into the follicle’s natural opening, delivering a controlled electrical current that destroys the hair’s growth cells.

Electrolysis works on all skin tones and hair colors, including blonde, gray, and red hair. Each treatment plan is tailored to your skin, treatment area, and hair growth patterns. Multiple sessions are needed because hair grows in different cycles. Your consultation includes a review of your skincare routine, medications, and hair removal history, along with a short trial treatment so you know what to expect.

electrolysis frequently asked questions

Electrolysis treatment is FDA approved for permanent hair removal. It was first invented in 1875 and is proven both effective and totally safe.  During electrolysis, a very fine probe is inserted into each hair follicle, activating a current that passes through the needle to the hair root, destroying the papilla (the vascular process of connective tissue nourishing the root of the hair). Method of papilla destruction varies by electrolysis machine, but includes: direct electrical current (Galvanic), short wave radio frequency current (Thermolysis), or a combination of Galvanic and Thermolysis currents (Blend). The currents delivered to the hair follicle cauterize the papilla, which should prevent each treated follicle from producing hair. Natural hair growth occurs in cycles with an active and dormant phase. Electrolysis only affects hair follicles/papilla in the active phase, leaving the dormant follicles unaffected. Due to this natural hair growth cycle, a series of multiple treatments are required to see optimal results. Number of treatments required will vary based on a variety of patient factors.

Proper preparation helps support a comfortable treatment. Here’s how to get ready:

  1. Stay hydrated. Drink water regularly before your appointment to support skin hydration.

  2. Keep exfoliation gentle. If you normally exfoliate, do so gently in the days before your visit—not immediately before treatment. Avoid scrubbing or irritating the skin.

  3. Plan for your comfort. If you’re considering an over-the-counter pain reliever, ask your pharmacist or healthcare provider whether it’s appropriate for you and follow the label directions.

  4. Avoid waxing, tweezing, sugaring, or threading before and throughout your electrolysis treatment plan. Leave enough visible growth for the hairs to be grasped with tweezers.

  5. Limit caffeine on appointment day if it increases your sensitivity.

  6. Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure. Sunburned or irritated skin needs time to recover before treatment.

  7. Keep us updated. Tell us about medications, skincare products, or health changes that may affect your treatment.

Yes. Electrolysis treats the hair follicle without relying on pigment, making it suitable for all skin tones and hair colors, including blonde, red, gray, and white hair. We’ll assess your skin and hair during your consultation to tailor your treatment.

Electrolysis can treat many areas of the face and body, including the chin, upper lip, cheeks, neck, underarms, abdomen, and bikini line. Tell us which areas concern you during your consultation so we can confirm suitability and plan your sessions.

You may feel a brief sensation of warmth, tingling, or stinging as each follicle is treated. Sensitivity varies by person and treatment area. Your consultation includes a short trial so you can experience the sensation before booking a full session. We’ll check in throughout treatment and discuss options to support your comfort.

Electrolysis is a series of treatments, rather than a one-time appointment. Hair grows in different cycles, and some follicles need more than one treatment. Your timeline depends on the area, hair density, growth patterns, hormonal influences, and appointment consistency. We’ll provide an initial estimate during your consultation and reassess as treatment progresses.

Electrolysis treatment is $79 per hour, with a one-hour minimum. Longer appointments are available at the same hourly rate. Your overall cost depends on the total treatment time needed.

All new clients begin with a separate 30-minute Consultation + Trial Treatment for $50.

Treatment appointments start at one hour. We’ll recommend a session length during your consultation based on your treatment area, hair density, and comfort. Larger areas or denser growth may require longer appointments or several visits to clear the visible hair.

We’ll review your skincare routine, medications, hair removal history, and treatment goals. We’ll explain hair growth cycles, discuss estimated treatment needs, and cover aftercare.

Your visit also includes approximately 5 minutes for numbing and 5 minutes of trial electrolysis, giving you an opportunity to experience treatment and ask questions.

You can shave or trim between sessions once your skin has recovered. Allow enough regrowth before your next appointment for the hairs to be grasped with tweezers.

Avoid tweezing, waxing, sugaring, and threading the treatment area during your electrolysis plan. These methods remove the hairs we need to identify and treat.

Temporary redness, mild swelling, or tenderness can occur after electrolysis. Small crusts may also develop; allow them to heal without picking.

Gently cleanse the area, avoid rubbing or scratching, and follow your personalized aftercare instructions. For at least 24 hours, avoid makeup on the treated area, excessive sweating, and heat. Avoid swimming, hot tubs, and saunas for 24–48 hours, and longer if irritation remains.

Keep irritating skincare products off the area until it has recovered. Protect your skin from sun exposure with shade, clothing, and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher as tolerated.

Contact us if you’re concerned about your skin’s response. Seek medical advice for worsening redness, warmth, pain, pus, or fever.

Electrolysis treats individual hair follicles with an electrical current for permanent hair removal. Laser uses light absorbed by pigment in the hair to reduce growth across a larger area. Electrolysis works on all hair colors, including blonde, red, gray, and white hair that laser may not effectively treat.

Yes. Electrolysis can permanently remove existing unwanted hair associated with PCOS and other hormonal changes. However, it does not treat the underlying hormonal condition. Hormones can stimulate additional hairs to develop over time, which may require further treatment. A healthcare provider can help evaluate and manage the cause of hormonal hair growth.

Electrolysis is generally safe when performed correctly by a trained professional, but it is not risk-free. Temporary redness and swelling can occur; less common risks include infection, pigment changes, burns, and scarring.

We’ll review your health history, medications, and skin condition before treatment. Tell us about implanted electronic devices, conditions that affect healing, and recent skin procedures. Sunburn, broken skin, or an active infection in the treatment area may mean postponing your appointment. Medical clearance may be needed in some cases.
